Who to hate? Bentley vs. Producers

Question everyone asks is, “Why is Ashley falling for Bentley?”  In our earliest posts, Apologists contend that Bentley’s aloofness, mystique or his hair is what is driving Ashley.  Since these early posts we have learned a few more things:

1) Bentley’s comments were frequently completely fabricated by producers

2) Not one contestant that was with Bentley has thrown him under the bus.

3) Producers contend that “Bentley is the worst ever” yet every prior season suggests evidence to the contrary.

Anyone that has watched the show prior to this season has seen the manipulative editing (especially in previews) to hook you into watching the next week’s episode.  With this recent information, Bentley Apologists contend that Ashley fell for Bentley… BECAUSE HE IS A GOOD GUY!  He gave her two dates and called it quits (not uncommon for relationships). Ashley is a smart girl; she’s in dental school at Penn.

So who is really to blame and who has the most to gain?… The producers.  This is why Bentley is coming back.  Bentley clearly does not want to be there, he wants out.  The producers bring him back because they realize they need something as a stop gap for losing all their viewers.  So in this post we provide the names and twitter accounts of those who should be held accountable.

If you’re mad about Bentley (from his comments being edited or because you despise his existence) don’t blame him.  Bentley left the show, blame the producers that brought him on knowing he was not interested and also decide to bring him back for more drama (Bentley was a rating’s machine for them!).  These are the producers, let them know what you think.

i agree. bentley was set up by producers. first off he is gorgeous and ashley thinks he is. she was warned but decided to check him out. she will only see what was edited by producers. not dump questions that they asked him. there is a lot more to know about everyone involved and what happened off camera and was and was not edited. i think bentley is a great guy set up by producers to get ratings because he is gorgeous and had a 2 yr old.

Wow this page is funny. Since it’s hard to believe Bentley has a lot of close friends, he’s probably connected to it’s creation. “No guy through Bentley under this bus.” I once knew a really crazy guy in college and most people who knew him casually thought he was an “okay guy.” Only those *really* close to him knew his true colors. Bentley is smart enough to *appear* like the others. While it’s true that editing can slant or shade a character to look a certain way, Bentley simply provides too much material against himself that even deceptive editing can’t explain. In truth, however, many of Bentley’s ‘mean’ and/or lusty comments about Ashley’s looks could be choked up to typical locker-room trash (– the kind of talk that most guys wouldn’t broadcast on camera–) none-the-less, his demeaning remarks are only as creepy as is the average creepy guy. However, when Ashley was crying after the roast and he went to console her, purportedly because he was “unable to miss an opportunity to mess with her head,” this comment struck me as the most perverted/psychopathic. Blatant unprovoked cruelty is something I’ve never understand, and as far as I can tell, Bentley seems purely motivated by a desire to wreak havoc – (quintessential, almost laughably – typical villain behavior). If he – or someone else – can put that particular quote in a less-heinous light, a small sliver of his character maybe could be salvaged. I know Ashley gets all choked up when people criticize her looks (because she is so insecure) that comment should have been the most disturbing, IMO.

Bentley is currently under contract. He can’t do anything without ABC approval.

      As for your quote
“unable to miss an opportunity to mess with her head”

We have no clue what context that was in. You will notice he was not on the camera when they made that quote. My bet is that this comment was probably made in relation to a different experience–not when she is crying. Possibly their first interaction.

Have you ever edited a reality show? Because I have and I can tell you that producers and editors do not “invent” characters, we dramatize what is already there for sure, but we DO NOT take perfectly nice people and turn them into villains. Bentley is an ass, accept it. He has shown many times on camera that he is a vapid, insensitive man.

I don’t know… I’ve never said I wanted to “mess with anyone’s head” in any context. Never wanted to mess with anyone’s head, so I can’t relate to the sentiment. I would be much more impressed with Bentley if he stood up and took responsibility for his words rather than hiding behind the curtain of editing. If the producers at abc really slandered his character to the degree he suggests, major lawsuits would be pending. How could the show have lasted after so many years?

        • June 24, 2011 at 12:38 pm

Allison, still saying you want to mess with her head possibly at the start of the show for one context has a VERY different interpretation for saying when a girl is crying in the corner because a boy (William) ripped her to shreds.

Also, there are no lawsuits because 1) All contestants sign their life away.
          2) ABC has a much better legal team and funding than your average Joe.

Thank God there are people on here not buying into this website’s BS. Bentley is a complete a**hole. He has made too many comments directly to the camera to deny this. Sure it can be slanted by editing, but you can’t deny the nasty comments he has said right in front of you. He is arrogant and full of sh*t. I cannot beleive anyone is defending him and I am completely disgusted that this site says that Ashley should be appoligizing to Bentley.
